Commissioning and start-up

A pressure reducing and metering station is handed over only after each unit has been checked against its drawings and specifications.

  1. Supervision of erection

We follow the Group's sequence: supervision of the mechanical and electrical erection, then pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up. Our station guide explains how the components work together.

  2. Line-by-line checks in the gas station

Line-by-line checks of the gas filter, the slam shut valve, the regulator and its monitor, the relief valve and the meter run, with set points adjusted to the design values before gas is admitted.

  3. Start-up of meters and converters

For gas meters and volume converters, start-up covers the converter configuration, the sensor connections and the alarm settings.

  4. First start-up of Flowatch meters

The Flowatch multiphase meters are designed so that operators can manage installation and maintenance themselves; we support the first start-up and the self-diagnostic configuration.

Maintenance, overhaul and calibration

Regulators and slam shut valves are maintained on a schedule and when a fault is reported.

Stations and reducing lines

The Group's operations and maintenance service covers scheduled maintenance and functional tests of gas pressure reducing stations and the mechanical overhaul of the reducing lines: slam shut valve (SSV), regulator (PCV), relief valve (PSV) and filters.

What an overhaul includes

An overhaul replaces the rubber parts of regulator and pilot with the original kit, checks the setting spring, plug and seat, re-sets the slam shut intervention pressures and records the values.

Gas meters and volume converters

Calibration and periodic verification follow the electronic and metering maintenance programme: battery check, calibration of the pressure and temperature sensors of converters and data loggers, voltage and current channel checks, and alarm verification by error simulation.

Rotary meter oil

Rotary meters such as the IM-RM also need an oil level check at least twice a year and an oil change at least every seven years, as the manual states.

Spare parts for Pietro Fiorentini equipment

Each technical manual has a recommended spare parts chapter in which every part is identified by the drawing number of the equipment and its position.

Direct operated regulators

For the Dival 500 and the Norval, the typical parts are the main diaphragm, the setting spring, the plug with its gasket and the rubber parts of the control head.

Pilot operated regulators

For the Reflux 819 and the Aperflux 101, the pilots (204/A, 205/A, 302/A, 304/A) and the R14/A pre-regulator are overhauled or replaced as units.

Slam shut valves

The SBC 187 and the Dilock use marked membranes and rubber-part kits.

Gas filters

The HFA/HFB gas filters take pressed-felt cartridges of 3.5 or 50 micron, replaced when the clogging indicator reaches its limit.

We supply original Pietro Fiorentini parts only; the manuals state that non-original parts relieve the manufacturer of responsibility for the declared performance. Send the model, the serial number and, where possible, the SR drawing number, and we identify the kit.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a gas pressure regulator or slam shut valve be overhauled?

The manuals require periodic checks and inspections and leave the interval to the plant's maintenance plan, which depends on gas quality, duty and the reliability level the plant requires. A typical overhaul replaces all rubber parts with the original kit, checks the spring, plug and seat, and re-sets the slam shut intervention pressures.

Can you calibrate gas meters and volume converters on site?

Electronic and metering maintenance covers calibration of the pressure and temperature sensors of volume converters and data loggers, battery checks, channel checks and alarm verification, by qualified personnel with the certificates the applicable regulations require. Legal metrology verification depends on the rules of the country where the meter is installed; tell us the meter type and site and we confirm what is done locally.

Which spare parts should I keep for a Dival 500 or a Reflux 819?

The recommended spare parts chapter of each manual lists them by drawing number and position. For the Dival 500: the main diaphragm, the setting spring and the rubber parts of the control head. For the Reflux 819, add the kits for the 204/A pilot and the R14/A pre-regulator. A site survey can also recommend spare stock levels for a station.

Do you provide training in Saudi Arabia?

Yes. Tailored courses are held at the customer's site, online or at the PF Gas Academy in Arcugnano, Italy, in any language. They cover the compliant installation and maintenance of pressure regulators, slam shut valves and complete stations, with a theoretical and a practical part set to the level of the attendees.

Do you offer well testing with multiphase flow meters?

Yes. Flowatch meters are used in fixed installations and in mobile well testing units; a well measurement needs two service operators and a short stabilisation time. We support installation, start-up, self-diagnostic configuration and remote assistance for the Flowatch 3i, Flowatch HS, Totem and Xtreme S. The Flowatch 3i, Totem and Xtreme S use no radioactive source.
