How to choose a low pressure gas regulator or governor

Separate the duty first: two-stage service regulators for homes and businesses, spring loaded regulators for commercial users, and governors that feed burners and appliances.

Two-stage service regulators

FE, FE515 and FEX are two-stage regulators with an integrated OPSO slam shut (Fail Close under EN 334; FEX adds UPSO). Capacity: 6 to 50 m³/h (FE), 6 to 25 m³/h (FE515, also LPG), 50 to 100 m³/h (FEX).

Higher inlet pressure: HP 100

Where the inlet pressure is higher, HP 100 accepts 1 to 20 bar and delivers 300 to 4500 mbar in its AP and AP TR versions; it is Fail Open, and a specific LPG version exists.

Residential double-stage: NeoR

NeoR is a double-stage residential regulator designed to ANSI B109.4 and CSA 6.18, without a slam shut, using a double token relief valve for overpressure protection.

Governors for burners

Goval and Governors STD feed burners and appliances at very low pressure: double diaphragm governors with a balanced plug, outlet settings of 5 to 300 mbar, with or without an integrated filter, to EN 88-1.

Ratio, zero and RCS governors

Ratio Governors keep a constant 1:1 gas/air ratio when the air pressure changes, and Zero Governors hold the downstream pressure at zero. RCS 201 and RCS 705 are balanced governors for residential networks.

USA range

The USA range (Governor 2 PSIG, Governor Dual Cut, Governor OPD and Zero Governors USA) is certified to ANSI Z21.80 / CSA 6.22 or ANSI Z21.18 / CSA 6.3 for North American codes; contact us to confirm availability.

For projects in Riyadh, Dammam, Abu Dhabi or Kuwait City, send us the inlet pressure, outlet set point, flow and gas type.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a gas governor and a gas pressure regulator?

Both reduce gas pressure and keep it stable. In this range the regulators, such as FE, FEX and HP 100, serve network and service duty and are classified under EN 334, often with a slam shut. The governors, such as Goval and Governors STD, comply with EN 88-1 and are designed for feeding burners and for low pressure distribution, with outlet settings from 5 to 300 mbar. Zero and ratio governors are special versions for burner control.

What is the difference between OPSO and UPSO?

OPSO is an over-pressure shut-off: a slam shut that closes the gas supply when the outlet pressure rises above its set point. UPSO is an under-pressure shut-off that closes when the pressure falls too low. FE and FE515 have an integrated OPSO and an optional excess flow valve that enables UPSO. FEX has both OPSO and UPSO slam shuts built in, plus an optional fire protection valve.

Which low pressure regulators can be used with LPG?

FE515 is designed for previously filtered natural gas or LPG and covers 6 to 25 m³/h. HP 100 has a specific LPG version for inlet pressure up to 20 bar. The RCS 201 flyer lists natural and manufactured gas, LPG and other non-corrosive treated gases. The USA governors are listed for natural gas, LPG and other clean non-corrosive gases. Tell us the gas and pressures and we will confirm the right version.

What is a zero governor used for?

A zero governor keeps the pressure downstream of the regulator at zero, adjustable from about minus 5 to plus 5 mbar, for gas appliances and burner feeding. Zero Governors in the EN range accept inlet pressure up to 350 mbar and comply with EN 88-1. Zero Governors USA (PFG300-ZE) is certified to ANSI Z21.18 / CSA 6.3 as a gas appliance pressure regulator for inlet up to 5 psig.

Do you supply low pressure regulators and governors in the GCC?

Pietro Fiorentini Saudi Industry in Al Khobar supplies and supports the EN range on this page, including FE, FEX, HP 100 and the EN 88-1 governors, for projects in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. The four USA-range governors are CSA/ANSI certified for North America; contact us to confirm their availability for your project.
