An ultrasonic smart water meter measures flow with no moving parts, so it keeps its accuracy over time, and it reports readings and alarms remotely.

This page covers the SSM-AQUO, a static water meter in sizes DN15 to DN50 with NB-IoT, LoRaWAN or wM-Bus, and the SSM-AQUO EV, a DN15 meter with a built-in electrovalve for remote shut-off. Both are rated up to 16 bar, for water networks and utilities in Saudi Arabia and the GCC: the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.

How to choose an ultrasonic water meter

  • Pipe size and flow

    The SSM-AQUO comes in DN15, DN20, DN25, DN32, DN40 and DN50, with a permanent flow Q3 from 2.5 m³/h at DN15 to 25 m³/h at DN50 and an operating range up to R500.

  • Accuracy and position

The SSM-AQUO EV is a DN15 meter with a Q3 of 2.5 m³/h and R500. Both have MID accuracy class 2 and work in any installation position.

  • Network

The SSM-AQUO carries a multi-communication module for NB-IoT (LTE Cat NB2), LoRaWAN and wireless M-Bus, with NFC and an optical port for local access; the SSM-AQUO EV uses NB-IoT. Both support two-way over-the-air firmware updates.

  • Remote supply control

The SSM-AQUO EV integrates an electrovalve that opens and closes the water flow remotely and applies customised flow limitation modes, for example for non-payment, with a dual-channel power architecture (separate batteries, 13-year battery life).

  • Leak detection and standards

Both meters detect small flows, hidden leaks, pipe bursts, zero consumption and reverse flow, are rated IP68, and are designed to OIML R49 and ISO 4064:2023 with MID certification.

  • What to send us

For housing developments in Jeddah, Dubai or Muscat, send us the pipe sizes, the network you plan to use and whether valves are needed.

Frequently asked questions

How is an ultrasonic water meter different from a mechanical meter?

A mechanical meter counts the turns of a moving element, and those parts wear over time. An ultrasonic meter such as the SSM-AQUO uses a static measuring principle with no moving parts subject to wear, so it keeps its accuracy over time. It can also detect the smallest flows and hidden leaks, and it records readings and alarms electronically for remote reading.

Can a smart water meter detect leaks?

Yes. The SSM-AQUO and SSM-AQUO EV detect small flows, hidden leaks, pipe bursts, empty pipes, zero consumption and reverse flow, and also raise alarms for tampering, excessive flow and freezing. The meters monitor water and ambient temperature too, so a utility can see problems on the network early instead of at the next manual reading.

Can a water meter shut off the supply remotely?

The SSM-AQUO EV can. Its integrated electrovalve opens and closes the water flow on a remote command over NB-IoT, and it can apply customised limitation modes instead of a full shut-off, for example to handle non-payment. The standard SSM-AQUO has no valve, so choose the EV version when remote supply control is part of the project.

What battery life do the SSM-AQUO meters have?

Both use non-replaceable lithium batteries with a 13-year battery life, according to their flyers. The SSM-AQUO EV uses a dual-channel power architecture with separate batteries, rated for a service life of over 13 years, to support the integrated electrovalve. Readings and alarms are sent through the built-in communication module.
